12 Foot Tall Ants to Invade Harborough in September
Sunday September 13th will see the streets of Market Harborough invaded by Giant Arts – some as big as 12 feet high. This is the prediction of the organisers of this year Arts Fresco, who have secured the act as part of Harborough annual free outdoor arts event. The musical Ants are part of a group called Neighbourhood Watch Stilts International who have starred at events from Portugal to Paris. This September they will be heading for Harborough.
“With just over 1 month to go more than three quarters of the acts for this year’s event have been booked and I can promise you that the streets of Harborough won’t have seen anything like it before” says Chair of Arts Fresco Hazel Cook. “Every year there seems to be one act that stands out and this year we think that the giant ants will give people something to remember”. Other new initiatives this year include Big Draw Live’ which is being run in conjunction with the Artists Cluster event. This will involve a ‘Big Draw¹ event in the Memorial Gardens off the Square behind Harborough Building Society. This part of the day is being run by local artists and will involve children from around the area both before and on the day.
Joules Clothing will once again be the event’s main sponsor and the event is made possible by a grant from the Arts Council with crucial support for Harborough council. It is the first time the event has taken part on a Sunday and the organisers’ hope last years record crowd of 12,000 can be matched once more.
